Privacy Policy

HomeSchool ("we", "us") is an online exam-preparation platform operated by Kojo Gyaase in Ghana. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We process personal data in line with Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).
1. Data we collect
- Account data — your name, email address, and a hashed password (we never store the password itself). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google.
- Student profile — student name, grade level, an optional profile photo, and an optional parent or guardian name and email.
- Learning data — your answers to questions, whether they were right, time spent, hints opened, assessment results, lesson progress, skill mastery, goals, XP, streaks and badges.
- Content you submit — writing submissions, forum posts, ratings and testimonials, and messages to tutors.
- Tutor sessions — booking details and the live video session itself, which runs through our video provider. We do not record sessions.
- Payment data — handled by our payment processor. We see the payment status and amount, never your full card number.
- Usage data — anonymous page-view statistics (pages visited, device type, country). These do not use cookies and do not identify you.
2. How we use it
- To run your account and sign you in.
- To personalise learning: choosing assessment questions, building your study plan, picking practice questions, and showing your progress.
- To run tutor sessions and send booking, password-reset and account emails.
- To process payments and issue invite codes.
- To keep the service secure, fix problems and improve it.
We do not sell your personal data and we do not show advertising.
3. AI features
Some features (hints, study tips, practice recommendations) are generated by an AI model hosted by Ollama. We send it question content and summaries such as skill names, difficulty levels and scores. We do not send your name, email or other contact details. AI output can be wrong; treat it as guidance.
4. Who we share it with
Only with service providers who process data for us, under their own security terms:
- DigitalOcean — application hosting and database
- Vercel — website hosting and anonymous page-view analytics
- Backblaze — storage for uploaded images and learning media
- Google — sign-in, if you choose "Continue with Google"
- Stripe — payment processing
- Resend — sending email
- Daily — live video for tutor sessions
- Ollama — AI features, as described above
Parents and guardians, and tutors you book, can see the learning data the service shows them. We may disclose data if the law requires it. These providers may store data outside Ghana; we only use providers that protect it to a standard comparable to Act 843.
5. Cookies and local storage
We store a sign-in token in a cookie and in your browser's local storage, along with settings such as your theme and in-progress study state. These are needed for the site to work. We use no advertising or tracking cookies.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is open. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we must keep records (for example, payment records) by law.
7. Children and teenagers
HomeSchool is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. Students aged 13 to 17 must have a parent or guardian's permission to use the service. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete your personal data, or object to how we use it. You can update most profile details yourself in the app. For anything else, email [email protected]. We reply within 30 days. You may also complain to Ghana's Data Protection Commission.
9. Security
Passwords are hashed, traffic is encrypted over HTTPS, and access to data is limited to what running the service requires. No system is perfectly secure; tell us at once if you think your account has been compromised.
10. Changes
We will update this page when our practices change and change the date above. For significant changes we will tell you by email or in the app.
